A new experience is emerging in the Climateverse...
Join us for the StoryWorld 2026 season of experiences
It all starts with melting Arctic sea ice.
As new shipping routes open, as well as access to new oil fields, tensions increase around state and Indigenous sovereignty, militarization and environmental protection.
Will we default to the old playbook, or imagine new possibilities free from war and extraction?
Then the question of global governance is shifted on its head.
As the “old guard” of Global North-led international cooperation crumbles in the face of increased conflict and an inability to take action against veto powered interests, a new system of global governance emerges, deliberated amongst emerging strengths in the “Global South.”
Could a new system of internationalization emerge, that holds true to the values of peace, freedom, abundance and sustainability?
And then it all comes home.
At the local level, the Toronto region reckons with the need for new municipal-provincial dynamics in pursuit of justice for all species.
How can cities and regions navigate differences of opinion and politics to secure just futures for people and planet?
Enter: The StoryWorld 2026.
These are the scenarios and premises of the three storyworld experiences The Climateverse will be exploring in the coming season:
Arctic Turning Point (Toronto Climate Week event)
Global South Council (Virtual Summer series)
The Watershed Moment (Fall event arc)
StoryWorld 2026 is a live, participatory climate futures experience.
Building off of last' year’s World Without Internet simulation that we ran entirely through this Dispatch, this year, the StoryWorld will unfold live with a mix of in-person and virtual experiences that will generate updates and artifacts that everyone else can follow along with right here in the weekly dispatch.
As a reader, you’re already part of the StoryWorld. Stay tuned for updates and dispatches as it all unfolds.
Paid subscribers will be invited to dive a little deeper:
Respond to simulation prompts
Submit “field signals” the council should consider
Engage with the story as it evolves
But of course, the best way to participate is to engage live with any of the three experiences.
Not sure where to start?
Join our virtual Launch & Learn on May 20th at 12pm ET
Part info-session, part-preview, I’ll walk you through the full arc of experiences, how they work, and what comes next.
Then we’ll play with the core method: responding to a signal, doing some collective sense-making and thinking about potential responses.
You’ll leave with clarity about how it all unfolds and all the ways you can participate live.
Bring your lunch (or breakfast, or dinner) and invite a friend as we kick-off this year’s StoryWorld program and rehearse the future together.
