Elders Council Takes Lead on Intergenerational Justice

A story in honour of International Day of Older Persons and the Seniors4Climate campaign today

Hello and Happy Fall!

Welcome to our newly branded “Dispatch from Other Dimensions”!!!

We’re leaning into a video-first format, and subscribers will get first access before the dispatch gets shared to socials (including YouTube very soon!)

Lots of interesting developments happening in The Climateverse this season, most notably our evolution:

The Climateverse is a transformation lab and multimedia studio focused on radically imagining and co-creating climate just futures.

Now, this Dispatch from Other Dimensions is but one creative project under the wider umbrella of The Climateverse, which includes creative and strategic advisory services, private trainings and public workshop and events.

I’m so excited to have a singular place to house all of my work, and from where we’ll be able to scale the impact of The Climateverse, and I’m so grateful to have each and every one of you along for the ride.

I’m also finally home in Toronto after being on the road for the last 6 weeks, and look forward to sharing reflections on the UN Summit of the Future and NY Climate Week soon!

In the meantime, I want to highlight today’s featured initiative: Seniors4Climate

The Toronto Region does not yet have an established Elders Council, but the entire country of Canada today is swept up in a wave of Seniors-led Climate action events that demonstrate “our growing concern about the impact of climate change and our desire to rebuild a healthy environment for future generations.”

Leveraging their grey power, Seniors across the country are convening around 6 key messages:

  • We’re in a climate emergency. We need to act NOW. Later Is Too Late!

  • We want faster and better action on climate by all levels of government.

  • We must phase out the use of fossil fuels.

  • We must stop the financial sector - banks, pension plans, insurance companies - from accelerating climate breakdown.

  • We need to speed up the transition to renewable power and clean energy.

  • We need climate action that is broad-based and deep-rooted: joining with youth, First Nations, the disadvantaged and equity seeking populations. We’re all in this together.

For a map of events taking place today and throughout the week all over what is currently Canada, see here.

I was deeply honoured to facilitate a session yesterday with a Toronto Seniors group, the SHAKERS, on climate change and climate justice, including a visioning activity on being good ancestors.

Join this intergenerational effort that’s declaring that #LaterisTooLate!

P.S. Thank you to everyone who made a submission to our upcoming zine! We’ve been blown away by the response and look forward to confirming selections over the next week! <3
